Real Brides: Mackenzie Speck

Real Brides: Mackenzie Speck

What do cake pops and Jordan shoes have in common? Our bride, Mackenzie Speck! Mackenzie and new hubby Damon Speck were married back in September of last year and we’re seriously jealous we weren’t there!

About Mackenzie’s Theme

Mackenzie’s theme was a royal combination of purple and navy with gold accents. The girls wore our favorite shade of purple (mauve) and the boys rocked navy suits. For food, our spirited couple were hungry for some homestyle bites and went with fried chicken from Gray Brothers Cafeteria, popcorn for cocktail hour and of course it wouldn’t be a Speck wedding without cake pops!

Special Touches

Mackenzie’s beau is a huge Michael Jordan fan so he literally surprised her with a fresh pair of kicks and MJ-inspired song to make their appearance after the wedding ceremony. We think Mackenzie may have had mixed feelings about this one! To compensate, our girl iced her new husband with frosting off their cake.

Mackenzie and Damon didn’t lock eyes on their wedding day until she was walking down the aisle (her favorite part of the wedding!). Once they met at the end, the soon-to-be newlyweds both shared their vowels that they each custom wrote themselves. Before the wedding day, the couple promised each other that they would stay by each other’s sides through the whole occasion and despite it being a blur of a day, they kept that promise to other through the ceremony and reception.

Why blue house and why you dress?

Mackenzie found us on Instagram (music to our marketing gal’s ears!) and the first dress she put on was “the one”. She had a second appointment but ended up cancelling because she “just knew”. She loved the simple elegance on our crepe-style Essense of Australia gown that fit her desire to have a low v-shaped back and front.

Mackenzie’s Advice

Mackenzie’s number one tip that we can totally get behind is to not try on too many dresses! This can cause a ton of unnecessary stress which leads us to discussing Mackenzie’s next point: come prepared with ideas before your bridal appointment to maximize your time and allow your consultant to pull styles that actually fit your vision.

Mackenzie also recommends creating a to-do list that you actually stick to and follow through on for all of your other wedding planning festivities. She also advises to knock things out early (at least a year in advance!) as vendors, event centers and other bridal appointments often book out at least a year in advance.

Thank you for sharing your special day with us, Mackenzie! We are kind of obsessed with everything! 💙
